The concept of One Day At A Time

I don't have to do anything forever; I do it one day at a time.  When I am building and rebuilding habits, this concept is a lifesaver.  Our minds can spin so easily in any variation of "I can't do this for a week or 30 days, let alone forever".  Here is the good news: You don't have to.  All you need to focus on is today.  The future is a distraction when our thoughts go to impossibility.

When I focus on the outcome, I'm not working in the here and now.  When I focus on how life will be once I reach X goal, my brain has left me stranded in the here and now.  There is no future; there is only now and what you will think and do now.  I got caught up in future thinking when I was marching toward my weight loss goal.  Little did I know that nothing changes when you hit goal weight.  Your habits stay the same.  Your mindset stays the same.  Your actions stay the same.  Your food remains delicious.  The circumstances of your life stay the same.  And when the brain says, "I can't possibly do this forever", there is also the option to think, "I'm doing this just for today."  There is no need to think about tomorrow.

Will you adopt the concept of One Day At A Time?

Until next time,
