Weight loss and food freedom – the most worthwhile journey of all

If you are someone who struggles with overeating, bingeing, obsession with food, and weight loss, choosing to deal with it (in the right way) is the single most amazing thing you will ever do for yourself.  Why?  Because it's not about the food and your weight as much as it is about building your relationship with yourself.  When you embark on this adventure, you build commitment, self-compassion, focus, pride, and life on purpose.  You come face to face with doubt, fear, and disappointment.  You learn to feel things.  You learn the skill of perseverance.  You make space in your life to dream about bigger things than the size of your jeans or what you will eat on the weekend.

The journey, if done properly, is not for the faint of heart.  Most won't bother because they want a quick fix; they're in it for the results and results alone.  The results mentality never works long term.  Focusing solely on results breeds impatience, which is one of the greatest obstacles to this work.  This work is about the long game if you truly want to set yourself free.

I spent 23 years caught in a love-hate cycle with my weight, my body, and food.  When things finally clicked for me, I was able to reach my ideal weight in 4.5 months.  After I reached my ideal weight, I was a bit shocked to notice that I was not "done".  What I've come to realize is that the self-work doesn't end.  The self-work gets easier to discern and is more clear.  The self-work involves bigger and better desires and dreams, which feels scary and uncertain.  But I wouldn't choose to be anywhere else.

My world has expanded as a result of this work on myself.  It has expanded in joy and expanded in discomfort.  My world is rich and full.

Until next time,
