The urge to binge eat.
It feels strong, compelling, compulsive, utterly powerful -- more powerful than anything else in the moment. Of course this is not true, but it feels that way.
It screams, "EAT or you literally won't survive." "You MUST eat. There is no other choice."
Your nervous system is in a state of arousal. This is life and death. Your survival brain is commanding you to take action. It feels inevitable. It's like gravity since you've responded by feeding it so many times.
That urge is a thought error. It's a blip in the machinery. That urge is not life and death. Your higher brain does not have to respond.
In times like this, you need a plan, a very clear survival guide with plainly laid out steps that take your aroused nervous system to a state of calm and clarity. Without such a plan, you likely will succumb to the urge.
In my program, we make a Pre-Binge Plan which is a no brainer way out of an urge. It is like a paint-by-numbers project, a step-by-step recipe that you simply look at and follow the steps. Because when your brain is in a state of obsessive, urgent looping, you can't think creatively. You are unable to problem solve. Your hand are tied.
