COVID-19: managing anxiety

How is the state of your mind as you navigate the transitions that are occuring due to the coronavirus pandemic?

I know that many of you are feeling anxious right now.  As I was out and about last Friday morning, I could feel my anxiety rising as I witnessed the long line up at Superstore, the absence of products on the shelves, and the panic around me and inside me.

Uncertainty.  Our brains do not like uncertainty.  This is a most uncertain time.  What can you do to take care of your mind during this time?  Firstly, you can allow yourself to feel what you feel.  Practice saying this: “I feel (worried, anxious, scared, etc.) and that’s okay.”  Let yourself settle into the feeling.  Breathe into it and make space for it.  I promise you will feel some relief once you do this.

Secondly, take action from a place of settledness, not a place of panic.  Make decisions for yourself and your families on purpose.

Thirdly, live your life.  Go create.  Read.  Indulge in conversations that have nothing to do with current events.  Stay off social media.  Take care of your brain because it is your most important asset!

In addition to seeing clients in my office, I offer sessions by phone and video.  If you do not feel comfortable being out and about, know that that option is available to you.  Book a consult or appointment here.

Until next time,
